Overview
Riverside County Human Resources seeks a Senior Safety Coordinator to support the Department of Waste Resources in Moreno Valley. The role provides on-site support in administering and overseeing occupational health, safety, accident prevention, and loss control programs in a high‑risk environment involving hazardous materials and landfill operations.
Responsibilities- Administer safety programs for DOT‑regulated fleet operations, including driver qualification, accident review, and compliance with FMCSR and clearinghouse requirements.
- Provide safety oversight for landfill, transfer station, and heavy equipment operations, ensuring traffic control, equipment safety, and contractor compliance.
- Lead Cal/OSHA inspections and manage regulatory responses, including implementing corrective actions for high‑risk operations.
- Serve as the primary safety advisor to department leadership on regulatory compliance, operational risk, and loss control strategies.
- Conduct incident investigations, prepare reports, and follow up on corrective actions to eliminate unsafe conditions and reduce risk.
- Three years of experience in industrial, safety engineering, or occupational health and safety inspection; training in state and federal safety laws is required.
- Knowledge of federal, state, ADA, and other regulations relating to safety, occupational health standards, hazardous materials management, and underground storage tanks.
- Ability to investigate accidents, analyze situations accurately, detect unsafe conditions, and implement corrections.
- Strong communication skills; capability to prepare clear and concise reports and establish cooperative relationships.
- Valid California Driver’s License;
Certified Healthcare Safety Professional designation (CHSP) recommended. - Instructor’s certificate in CPR/AED must be obtained within one year of employment.
Physical/Environmental:
The Coordinator works outdoors and is exposed to inclement weather, dust, and other environmental conditions. Inspections may require moving heavy materials and walking on uneven ground or wet surfaces.
