Position: Library - Branch Manager I (Mall)
Description

The Branch Manager I oversees the day-to-day operations of the Moreno Valley Public Library’s Mall location under the direction of library leadership. This role supports the mission, vision, and values of Library Systems & Services by providing strong leadership, supporting staff, and maintaining a dedicated focus on exceptional patron service.

The Branch Manager I ensures that library operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational standards. This position provides hands‑on leadership to library staff and helps create a welcoming, community-focused environment for Lakeshore Village patrons.

  • Employment Type: Full‑time, non‑exempt, hourly
  • Work Location: Moreno Valley, CA (Mall location)
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Hourly Rate: $30.00
  • Work Arrangement: Onsite; this position is not eligible for remote work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the Mall location, ensuring consistent, high‑quality library services.
  • Lead, supervise, and support library staff, including coordinating schedules, communicating expectations, providing coaching, and monitoring performance.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings to promote communication, collaboration, and alignment with library priorities.
  • Coordinate library programming and outreach activities that respond to the needs and interests of the Moreno Valley community.
  • Propose and prioritize programming and outreach initiatives for approval by library leadership.
  • Develop and communicate programming and outreach schedules to staff, patrons, and community partners.
  • Coordinate library promotional efforts, including flyers, calendars, social media content, and website updates, in collaboration with appropriate teams.
  • Represent the library in the community and build positive relationships with local organizations, schools, and community partners.
  • Provide direct patron service and support staff in resolving patron concerns and applying library policies consistently.
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve library operations and expand service opportunities.
  • Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to set goals, solve problems, and make decisions that enhance library services.
  • Use sound judgment to assess the importance, urgency, and risk of situations, escalating concerns to library leadership as appropriate.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of library goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and requirements related to patron privacy and the proper handling of patron records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required;
    Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience, preferably in a library or related public service environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in library management and/or administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to speak, write, and listen in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in Spanish is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using appropriate tools and techniques for effective communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a changing work environment while maintaining a high level of performance and service.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, community partners, and patrons to support organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical behavior, with personal conduct and team practices aligned with organizational values and standards.
