Overview
The Kitchen Assistant - Fairview role at Odyssey House Louisiana assists in culinary operations, working with Fairview treatment clients in the kitchen. Responsibilities include daily kitchen activities, product purchasing, food preparation, delivery, storage, cleanliness, and assisting the Chef with menu planning and implementation.
Responsibilities- Assist with all kitchen-related activities
- Assist in preparation and cooking of food
- Assist in the delivery of all food and kitchen supplies
- Assist and oversee clients assigned to work in the kitchen
- Direct cleaning of kitchen and food storage area
- Facilitate all client education sessions to ensure weekly training and skill development
- Ensure compliance with safety practices related to the kitchen and equipment
- Conduct and document weekly inventory using agency inventory control
- Ensure proper labeling and organization of food and supplies by date
- Add additional inventory as requested by the Chef, Program Manager or designee
- Assist with invoices and requisitions for food, kitchen supplies, and equipment
- Coordinate with Program Managers to ensure compliance with approved agency program menus; deviations documented and approved in advance
- Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen and storage areas daily
- Report maintenance issues promptly
- Be present for all deliveries in the absence of Kitchen Management and coordinate with Chef and Program Manager to cover deliveries
- Receive and forward feedback to clinical, medical, and other staff as required
- Complete incident reports as directed
- Assist with filing and other program functions as requested
- Perform other duties as required
Must be able to walk around campus, be on feet in kitchen and storage areas, climb stairs, stoop, and stand up to 95% of shift. Ability to bend and lift 25–60 lbs. Ability to work varied shifts including evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays. Occasional travel; administrative tasks may be performed at a workstation.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in the treatment facility focusing on kitchen, food service, and storage areas. Indoor/outdoor work with varying temperatures; operate all related commercial kitchen equipment. Proficiency with computers, copiers, and fax machines.
Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge of basic sanitation rules and practices
- Knowledge of food ordering and inventory practices
- Proficient in MS Office
- Current valid Louisiana Driver’s License
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Serv-Safe certification
- Functioning personal vehicle
- 6 months experience with substance abuse treatment
- Hospital/Healthcare experience
- Cleaning experience
