Position

Summary

Managing the crew of the vessel and ensuring their safety through implementation of policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure safe and efficient navigation and operation of the vessel.
  • Direct or coordinate crew members performing activities such as loading/unloading cargo, steering, operating engines, and maintaining ship equipment.
  • Inspect vessel to ensure safety of crew, passengers, and environment.
  • Aid in training and development of crew members as outlined in company policy.
  • Learn and implement company and vessel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records of daily activities, prepare progress and personnel reports.
  • Maintain flag state and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize navigational aids such as radars, ECDIS, radios, GPS, lights, buoys to avoid hazards.
  • Remain fully informed and adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and directives.
  • Compute positions, set courses, and determine speeds using charts, compasses, sextants, and knowledge of local conditions.
  • Coordinate activities of crew responsible for operating safety equipment such as life boats, FRC, anchor winch, and radio.
Qualifications

Required

For Unlimited Endorsements
  • 2–3 years minimum Multi Service Vessel (MSV) experience.
  • Experience with in Survey, Research, and oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management System (SMS) shipboard procedures.
  • Merchant Mariner’s Credential – Oceans.
  • License with minimum rating of 10,000 ITC or Unlimited Oceans. (No OSV Endorsement’s)
  • STCW (Standard Training and Watchkeeping Certification).
  • ECDIS.
  • ARPA.
  • Radar.
  • DPO Unlimited Certification.
  • GMDSS Radio Operator’s License.
  • Safe Gulf experience.
  • HLO / HLO Fire.
  • Valid TWIC card.
  • Valid Passport.
For 1600 GRT/3000 ITC Endorsements
  • 2–3 years minimum Multi Service Vessel (MSV) experience.
  • Experience with in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of SMS shipboard procedures.
  • Merchant Mariner’s Credential.
License With a 1600 GRT/3000 ITC Rating Upon Oceans
  • STCW (Standard Training and Watchkeeping Certification).
  • DPO Unlimited Certification.
  • GMDSS Radio Operator’s License.
  • ARPA.
  • Safe Gulf experience.
  • Valid TWIC card.
  • Valid Passport.
For 500 GRT Endorsements
  • 2–3 years minimum Survey Vessel experience.
  • Experience with in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of SMS shipboard procedures.
  • Merchant Mariner’s Credential.
License With a 500 GRT Rating
  • STCW (Standard Training and Watchkeeping Certification).
  • GMDSS Radio Operator’s License.
  • Safe Gulf experience.
  • Valid TWIC card.
  • Valid Passport.
Preferred
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Vocational training.
  • DP II Experience (not required for 500 GRT rating).
  • Security Clearance (not required for GOM Vessels).
