Job Summary

The Technology Support position is responsible to the Director of Technology Services in providing hardware and software support to College faculty, staff, and students, and maintenance of the College s computer equipment to ensure the effective and efficient use of information technology to achieve College goals. The position will also work, as a team member, in the planning and development of the college s information infrastructure, as a whole.

In partnership with Technology Services Division personnel and management, will provide support with respect to:

  • Planning, implementation, and evaluation of college-wide information systems and technologies.
  • Planning and development of college-wide information systems standards, and usage guidelines.
  • Review of ideas for information technology equipment and software to ensure they meet college standards and future requirements.
  • Development of college-wide information security standards.
  • Evaluate the results of Technology Division initiatives and recommend policies, procedures and actions to achieve College goals to the Director of Technology Services.
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems.
  • Perform repairs on desktop, laptop and server computers.
  • Install and configure new hardware and software, and computing peripherals such as printers, scanners, external drives, barcode readers, etc.
  • Relocate and redeploy hardware when necessary.
  • Use the Web Work Order and E-Log systems to track and thoroughly document all computer support problems and resolutions.
  • Provide timely feedback to faculty and staff on the status of computer support work orders.
  • When necessary, initiate and maintain contact with vendor technical support in order to resolve technical issues/problems.
  • Assist in the inventory and maintenance of software licensing.
  • Assist in the definition and maintenance of a hardware lifecycle replacement plan, and in the standardization of hardware and software campus-wide.
  • Provide backup server support to Colleague, and Office 365.
  • Consult and assist in the identification and procurement of end-user hardware and software, and server room equipment relevant to College technology goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree in computer related field required.
  • Two years of experience in a hardware/software support capacity required.
  • Demonstrated computer hardware maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with current Windows client operating systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to develop team building skills.
  • Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations within the college community, as a whole
  • Valid NC Driver s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor s Degree in computer related field.
  • Two years of experience in a hardware/software support capacity required.
  • Demonstrated computer hardware maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with current Windows client operating systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Special Instructions

Some major physical activity is required during installation of new computers/printers and the removal of old computers/printer, registration set-up, rearranging office furniture to meet requirements of new computer equipment, use ladder to run cable through ceiling, etc. The functions of the job are usually performed sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying, moving objects up to 100 lbs., and other movements may be required.

Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard may involve extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
