DescriptionThe Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a tenure–track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, anticipated to start as soon as August 2026. The appointment is in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE). Applicants focused on robotics, energy systems, or materials science are especially encouraged to apply.
WVU is an R1 research university. The Statler College has seven academic departments, over 3,700 students, and 130 faculty. MMAE has 30 faculty, 640 undergraduates, and 100 graduate students. Research expenditures exceed $19 million annually, with laboratories in materials science, energy systems, aerospace systems, and robotics. The department offers experiential learning and has a strong record in national and international competitions, including EcoCAR, NASA Centennial Challenges, and the Spaceport America Cup.
Morgantown is within a high‑technology corridor hosting federal research facilities such as NASA Katherine Johnson IV&V, DOE NETL, NIOSH, and the FBI. The city is a safe, inclusive, and family‑friendly community, ranked among the most livable small cities in the United States.
QualificationsApplicants must hold a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, robotics engineering, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to:
- Develop and sustain an independent, internationally recognized research program
- Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams at WVU, other academic and government institutions, and industry partners
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses
- Perform professional service to the institution, the university, and the broader community
Evidence of peer‑reviewed publications, strong communication skills, and potential to attract competitive research funding are required. Associate Professor candidates must have an outstanding record of teaching, research, and service.
