Description

The Energy Express Department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Site Coordinator position. Each summer, Energy Express reaches thousands of children statewide, helping them maintain or improve reading levels, eat well, and stay connected. The program builds confidence in children and cultivates future educators and civic leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Be an active participant in the in‑person site leadership training April 11 - 12, 2026. All site coordinators must attend the entire two‑day training.
  • Serve as site coordinator from June 1 – July 24, 2026, with no absences unless approved by the Energy Express state office.
  • Complete a minimum of six hours a day on site, typically 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with the site team and a minimum of 300 hours from June 1, 2026, through July 24, 2026, plus all required trainings.
  • When Title I funds are used, provide direct reading instruction in comprehension and vocabulary skills to a group of students daily on a rotational basis if an additional highly qualified teacher by the BOE is not hired.
  • Provide training for team members and participate in all activities at statewide team training, including the Ameri Corps National Service swearing‑in ceremony, June 2‑3, 2026 at Jackson's Mill, WV.
  • Supervise and train members beginning June 1 through July 24, 2026, including some evenings and weekends. Site Coordinators must supervise and train Ameri Corps members at least 8 hours during a weekend of Energy Express.
  • Set an overall positive and productive tone for the program, staying focused and committed to the program's goals, philosophy, and model.
  • Facilitate daily team meetings and training as needed throughout the program.
  • Collaboratively plan, model, and supervise in the delivery of reading activities and teaching strategies for the mentors.
  • Supervise Ameri Corps members as they connect family members and the community to children's learning by recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.
  • Supervise members as they connect the site to the community through public relations efforts, including working with the media.
  • Facilitate team reflection at least twice a week.
  • Formally evaluate the performance of members twice during the program.
  • Work with county Extension agent or Energy Express County contact to engage the site team in their group Ameri Corps community service project, promote Ameri Corps national identity, ensure media involvement at the site with the help of the Community Coordinator, and plan and implement a site open house during the fifth week of the program.
  • Support members in conducting family calls before the program starts and maintaining weekly contact with families.
  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere, support, and recognition for members, volunteers, visitors, parents, and children.
  • Maintain a sense of teamwork and cooperation among all those involved in the program.
  • Maintain open and honest communication with all those involved in the program.
  • Assume responsibility for facility and equipment and be present when the facility is in use by Energy Express. Ensure that the facility is left in good condition when the program is over.
  • Assume responsibility for materials and supplies. Supervise members and volunteers in completing a supply inventory and packing supplies and resource materials when the program is finished.
  • Use technology for communication and submission of data.
  • Maintain children's records, assist with evaluation, and complete required reports and forms by established deadlines.
  • Provide county contact with a copy of all paperwork submitted to state Energy Express office.
  • Be aware of Ameri Corps policies and procedures so that Energy Express remains in compliance with the federal grant.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Salary: $9,000.00 (June 1 – July 24, 2026) for 300 hours plus required trainings
Length of Assignment: 2 Months
Work Hours: 37.5 Hours per week

  • A bachelor's degree awarded prior to June 1, 2026, or a combination of education and experience
