  • Service Term: Must serve a 365‑day (1 year) service term
  • Living Allowance: $68.39/day ($24,962.35/year)

The West Virginia Land Trust (WVLT) Ameri Corps Program is dedicated to expanding conservation education and fostering a greater appreciation for the benefits of outdoor engagement. Through partnerships and outreach, WVLT seeks to protect West Virginia’s natural lands, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance community well‑being by connecting people with nature. The program values sustainability, collaboration, and public engagement to build a strong conservation movement across the state.

This Ameri Corps Position will support WVLT’s efforts by developing and implementing a health‑focused outreach strategy. The member will design marketing campaigns, build volunteer engagement systems, and coordinate conservation‑related events, strengthening WVLT’s capacity to reach diverse communities. By enhancing outreach and organizational efficiency, the member will play a key role in expanding the impact of WVLT’s conservation initiatives.

The Ameri Corps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities.

Description of Duties:

The West Virginia Land Trust (WVLT) is expanding its conservation education efforts to highlight the health benefits of spending time in nature. The VISTA member will support these efforts by collaborating with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement a health‑focused outreach strategy.

Specific duties include:

  • Designing and implementing a health‑focused marketing campaign to promote outdoor engagement.
  • Developing digital and social media content that aligns with WVLT’s outreach goals.
  • Planning and coordinating special events and outdoor activities in partnership with local organizations.
  • Creating and refining systems for a sustainable volunteer program, including strategies for recruitment, training, and engagement.
  • Researching and identifying best practices for community outreach to expand awareness of WVLT’s mission and programs.
  • Supporting administrative processes that enhance the efficiency of WVLT operations.

The member should have strong communication skills, creativity, and problem‑solving abilities. Some evening and weekend activities, as well as occasional overnight travel, may be required.

Qualifications:

  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an Ameri Corps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award
  • Has received some college
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
