Job Opportunity – Trauma Stepdown RN – West Virginia

Start Date: November 12, 2026
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, weekdays with every other weekend required; float within scope as needed

Highlights:

• Level 1 Trauma Center with 855 staffed beds in a major teaching hospital setting
• 37-bed unit including 6-bed trauma stepdown (1:3 ratio), 25-bed medical-surgical trauma telemetry (1:5 ratio), and 6-bed pediatric trauma (travelers not required to cover pediatrics)
• Multidisciplinary team approach caring for multi-system trauma and surgical patients with intermediate care stepdown capabilities
• Advanced care includes ventilator management, critical drips, arterial lines, chest tubes, wound vacs, and epidurals for multiple rib fractures
• Cerner charting system with orientation held every other Thursday
• 36 or 48-hour weekly contract options available with 36 hours guaranteed; blocked schedule requests accommodated

Requirements:

• Active West Virginia or Compact RN License (pending license accepted for submission)
• Minimum 2 years RN experience; 1 year trauma, stepdown, PCU, or IMC experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association); TNCC preferred
• CPI certification required (can be obtained through Qualivis)
• Fit test completion required prior to start; candidates may need to travel up to 100 miles for testing
• Skills required:
  
  IV starts, telemetry, ventilator management, Level 1 trauma experience, conscious sedation
• Flu vaccination required during October 1 - March 31 (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• Must reside 100+ miles from facility (75-99 miles considered case-by-case)
• Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references from past 2 years required
