Description
The School of Natural Resources and the Environment is seeking three Temporary Wildlife Field Technicians, with one position available in each of the following counties:
Jackson County, Mineral County and Wyoming County.
The field technicians will assist graduate students with research on wild turkey ecology and management. The field technicians will assist with trapping wild turkeys, fitting turkeys with GPS transmitters, monitor turkey survival/nesting, and collect associated environmental data. The technicians will also help with data entry/organization, and equipment upkeep. These positions will work closely with individuals from WVU and the WV Division of Natural Resources.
WhatYou'll Do
- Scouting trapping locations: 5% of time
- Trapping turkeys: 25% of time
- Monitoring turkey survival and nesting: 45% of time
- Collecting environmental data: 10% of time
- Data entry and organization: 10% of time
- Equipment upkeep: 5% of time
Pay Grade: 10
Length of AssignmentLength of Assignment: 6 Months
Work HoursWork Hours:
37.5 Hours
- Associates degree or coursework in wildlife biology, ecology, or related field
- 0-6 months of experience involving:
- Communicating with the public while in the field
- Telemetry
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
- Ability to work both independently and part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in harsh weather conditions and in difficult terrain
- Experience communicating with the public while in the field
- Basic knowledge of data entry in Excel
- Experience with telemetry (preferred)
- Valid Driver's License
