- Maintain consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide accurate information to all patients, visitors, and staff 100% of the time.
- Respond to all patient, visitor, and staff requests for assistance in a caring, courteous manner, 100% of the time.
- Provide physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services, and room access to patients, visitors, and staff accessing hospital facilities.
- Monitor and maintain traffic flow in hospital parking areas and roadways by assisting disabled vehicles, issuing parking permits, and warning violations.
- Protect people and property by preventing accidents, theft, and vandalism, in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Perform routine building rounds, door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrol.
- Make recommendations to management to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
- Report suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents, and persons according to hospital policy.
- Assist during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues.
- Document activities, incidents, safety, accidents, theft, vandalism, and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective, legible manner.
- Respond to and provide assistance during emergency situations, including assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters.
- Perform patient restraint as directed by clinical staff and be capable of physical intervention when appropriate.
- Operate hospital‑owned vehicles safely and responsibly 100% of the time.
- Ensure vehicles are in safe and proper operating condition by performing inspections per departmental policy.
- Other requirements: incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, med G assists, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, traffic direction, policy enforcement, alarm investigation, duress, physical interventions, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, radio communication, escort services, loss prevention, vehicle assists, transport equipment, posts assignments, training.
Minimum qualifications prior to May 1, 2022:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Obtain Heart Saver First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
- Pass WV DHHR Protected Services Record Check and WV CARES fingerprint‑based criminal background check.
- One (1) year of experience in the security field.
Minimum qualifications after May 1, 2022:
- High school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of security experience OR associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Obtain Heart Saver First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
- Pass the background checks listed above.
Preferred qualifications:
- Additional year of security experience.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for the entire shift.
- Ability to lift, push or pull 80 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate adverse environmental conditions.
- Periodic evaluation by Occupational Medicine.
- May be exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Effective under stressful situations.
- Good decision‑making skills.
- Organize and maintain document controls.
- Strong writing skills.
- Team player and contributor.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to train Security Officer 1.
