Novus is a leading prison education provider in the UK. We’re looking for a dedicated Outreach and Distance Learning Teacher to support learners who are unable to access traditional classroom-based learning. This role focuses on engaging hard‑to‑reach learners through outreach teaching and supported distance learning, helping them build confidence, develop skills and re‑engage with education.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Northumberland, working as an Outreach & Distance Learning Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, part‑time basis, working 22.5hrs per week.

Site Information

HMP Northumberland is a Category C men’s prison, located in Morpeth near the village of Acklington in Northumberland, England. The teams’ aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrate positive team working
