Job Description This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Environmental Compliance Coordinator to support major construction programs across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Join our Earth & Environment Team and contribute to a growing organization delivering environmental excellence on complex regional infrastructure projects.

This role provides high-level environmental compliance oversight, coordination with regulatory agencies, and technical leadership for multi-site construction efforts. Responsibilities include interpretation of permit conditions, field documentation review, compliance tracking, restoration oversight, and advising project leadership on environmental impacts, mitigation, and sequencing constraints.

Your Impact

  • Provide oversight of environmental compliance for construction project locations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
  • Review field reports, contractor submittals, restoration plans, and applicable state permit documentation.
  • Coordinate with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP), New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), conservation districts, and local agencies.
  • Maintain compliance logs, issue trackers, and permit‑condition matrices for both PA and NJ work scopes.
  • Support construction sequencing for project locations and evaluating seasonal/environmental work constraints.
  • Provide interpretation of regulatory requirements and environmental commitments to field teams.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience performing environmental surveys, construction monitoring, habitat/impact assessments, or environmental compliance oversight for infrastructure projects.
  • Strong environmental science/ecology background with experience in wetlands, streams, habitats, sensitive species, and restoration compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee environmental compliance for construction locations across PA and NJ, including review of field reports, contractor submittals, restoration plans, and permit documentation.
  • Experience coordinating directly with PADEP, NJDEP, county conservation districts, and local agencies regarding environmental requirements and field compliance expectations.
  • Experience maintaining compliance logs, corrective‑action trackers, and permit‑condition matrices for multi‑location construction scopes.
  • Ability to evaluate construction sequencing, seasonal restrictions, environmental timing windows, and other regulatory constraints.
  • Experience interpreting environmental commitments and regulatory requirements for construction managers, field teams, and contractor personnel.
  • Established experience leading and reviewing environmental technical reports, impact evaluations, siting analyses, and environmental permit applications.
  • Strong familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations, resource permitting processes, and agency coordination pathways.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, QA/QC oversight, and mentoring junior environmental staff.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, field documentation systems, and office/communication software.
  • Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills for evaluating field conditions, interpreting data, and resolving compliance‑related challenges.
  • Proven commitment to safety and ability to adhere to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules aligned with construction needs, which may extend beyond standard workweeks.
  • Occasional travel required based on project‑specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Essential professional licensure/certification.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
