Job DescriptionWSP is conducting a search for an Experienced Civil & Stormwater Project Engineer to join our Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) team in New Jersey. The successful candidate will be involved in a range of civil engineering projects – SWM, drainage, hydraulic/hydrologic, soil erosion & sediment control (SESC) – and will collaborate with a multi‑discipline team and clients to ensure quality project delivery.
Responsibilities- Support civil engineering projects as a Stormwater Management (SWM)/Drainage/Hydrologic & Hydraulic (H&H)/Soil Erosion & Sediment Control (SESC) task designer.
- Collaborate effectively with regulatory agencies, consultants, subcontractors, and clients.
- Prepare engineering permit applications, reports, plans, specifications, estimates, construction support services, and perform occasional field work.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical site surveys, GIS, subsurface utility information, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other relevant sources.
- Apply civil engineering techniques to identify SWM/H&H improvement opportunities, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits across concept, preliminary, final design, and construction phases.
- Assist in project scoping, proposal preparation, and marketing activities.
- Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
- Pursue diversified knowledge of T&I and water resources principles and practices.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for floodplain mapping, SWM, and drainage design per federal, state, and local regulations.
- Design SWM best‑management practices, drainage systems, and SESC measures.
- Identify technical issues and take actions to mitigate risk.
- BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- Passed FE exam; EIT certification preferred.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in Transportation and Infrastructure projects.
- Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, SWM BMPs, drainage design, stream hydrology and hydraulics, floodplain evaluation, and SESC measures.
- Experience with roadway design principles, grading, and earthwork.
- Skill in generating, reviewing, and supervising construction documents.
- Experience preparing and acquiring NJDEP permits (FHA, WFD, FWW) and other environmental permits in NJ/NY/PA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CADD software (Micro Station and/or AutoCAD).
- Proficiency in HEC‑RAS, Hydro
CAD, Bentley Pond Pack, Storm
CAD, Storm & Sanitary. - Occasional travel may be required.
- MS in Civil Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
- NJ/NY/PA Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain.
- Competence in ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D/LDD, and/or Bentley InRoads/Open Roads Designer.
- Familiarity with surface‑water H&H analysis software (HEC‑1, HEC‑2, HEC‑HMS, WMS, EPA SWMM) preferred.
- MS in Civil Engineering or related discipline (preferred).
- Professional Engineer license in NJ/NY/PA.
- Competence in ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D/LDD, and/or Bentley InRoads/Open Roads Designer.
- Familiarity with surface‑water H&H analysis software (HEC‑1, HEC‑2, HEC‑HMS, WMS, EPA SWMM) preferred.
