The Senior Credit Risk Manager (Commercial Real Estate) is responsible for all underwriting activities related to new and existing credit transactions with moderate to higher complexity, including client diligence, structuring, and the required analysis and preparation of the underwriting package. The day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and various types of commercial real estate projects, preparing credit memos for loan approvals, annual reviews of existing loans, renewals and modifications, monitoring covenant compliance, and assisting in projects as required by management.
Deal size ranges from $5,000,000 to $50,000,000. Property types include multifamily, office, mixed‑use, hotels, etc.
- Monitor the ongoing financial health of an assigned loan portfolio, maintaining communication and dialogue with clients alongside the business team for all credit related reporting and business updates.
- Underwrite and structure new prospective transactions and renewals, extensions, increases, and material modifications for existing clients.
- Lead external client meetings and internal deal team discussions with senior management, identifying risks, advising on policy, and guiding loan structures.
- Review credit packages completed by junior team members, providing guidance and mentorship.
- Perform due diligence and analysis, produce credit presentations in accordance with guidelines and policy, present credit requests to the required level of credit authority, and oversee the legal documentation and closing process.
- Approve transactions under individual lending authority, when applicable.
- Maintain oversight via internal reporting and dashboards of all ongoing portfolio monitoring requirements and client deliverables, ensuring compliance with loan agreement terms.
- Validate and analyze reports such as financial statements, borrowing base certificates, collateral examinations, appraisals, engineering reports, etc., and develop action plans as necessary.
- Ensure credits are accurately risk rated, monitored, and reported.
- Prepare all required quarterly reports and analysis including Criticized Loan Monitoring Reports and other portfolio management reports.
- Participate in special projects and requests related to portfolio management.
- Strong understanding of policies and procedures, underwriting guidelines, and RACs.
- Advanced knowledge of credit underwriting, financial accounting, and loan documentation.
- Advanced understanding of deal structuring and ability to communicate structure to lenders.
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal and social skills for interacting with loan officers, staff, and customers.
- Ability to manage time efficiently.
- Strong mathematical and credit skills.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a commercial lending environment in a credit‑oriented underwriting position.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and completion of a formal credit training program.
