Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sets up surgical equipment in OR suites between cases in an efficient manner using the approved Infection Prevention cleaning guide and manufacturers’ IFUs. Maintains cleanliness and organization of equipment in storage areas.
  • Follows policy and procedures regarding specimen handling and blood product handling.
  • Utilizes the surgical schedule and surgeon preference cards to prepare the Operating Room suite for each surgical procedure and notifies appropriate personnel of any potential issues or possible delays.
  • Labels and reports defective equipment promptly to clinical engineering, completes appropriate paperwork, and documents information in the repair logbook for future reference.
  • Assists in lifting and transferring patients under supervision using proper transfer devices and body alignment.
  • Restocks supplies in assigned areas of the unit, reports par deficits to the materials manager, and cleans/checks outdates before restocking.
  • Maintains a safe environment by following unit and hospital-based policies and protocols. Practices universal precautions for handling hazardous waste, sharps, trash, contaminated linen, medication disposal, and oxygen storage.
  • Seeks informal and formal learning opportunities. Completes mandatories and assigned competencies as required by their role. Recognizes own limitations and seeks appropriate resources as necessary.
  • Responds promptly to requests and emergency situations. Communicates with the charge nurse when unable to meet the needs of the unit. Demonstrates teamwork and fosters positive working relationships, especially in the preceptor role.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the unit and accepts assignments willingly.
  • Demonstrates independent task accomplishment as well.
  • Maintains patient and medical staff confidentiality, and reports compliance issues to appropriate personnel when in question.
  • Supports nursing personnel in providing direct patient care and assists patients with daily activities.
  • Changes bed linens, runs errands, and prepares supplies.
  • Transports patients within the facility.
  • Ensures a safe care environment for patients and their families.
  • Performs continuous rounds and check-ins throughout the shift to ensure patient and family needs are met.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Any previous experience in a hospital setting is a plus
  • BLS
