Position: Assistant Nurse Manager, Full Time, Evenings 11a-7p, Operating Room, Morristown Medical Center

Job Description

Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team. Administrative oversite of the department.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Job Function 01:
    Provide direct care and function, troubleshoot independently, proactively know when to ask for assistance. Facilitates resolutions to complex patient and or family situations (e.g., referrals to physician, Social Work, Pastoral Care, etc.). Utilizes escalating medical notification when needed. Act as advocate to patients.
  • Job Function 02:
    Coordinate with Director/Manager in maintaining a safe environment of care. Criteria:
    Assist in maintaining a therapeutic safe unit in accordance with regulatory bodies, such as The Joint Commission, etc.
  • Job Function 03:
    Collaborate with Director/Manager in areas of daily operational and strategic needs. Anticipate the needs for staff efficiency according to volume variations.
  • Job Function 04:
    Collaborate with Director/Manager in daily operational and strategic needs. Anticipate the needs for staff efficiency according to volume variations.
  • Job Function 05:
    Actively interface & assist in maintaining a collaborative relationship and open communication between physicians, team members, management, administration, and other units and programs. Represent the Unit Manager/Director when providing on-shift leadership and coordination to meet the immediate and changing needs of all customers. Demonstrate problem‑solving in complex situations.
  • Job Function 06:
    Coordinate with Director/Manager in maintaining unit fiscal management. Work with staff to assist Director/Manager in ensuring budget monitoring processes are in place and that appropriate action plans are implemented and adhered to. Communicate with Director/Manager regarding ways to reduce and control expenses, and enhance revenues. In the absence of the Director/Manager, post and/or approve payroll. Coordinate ordering of needed supplies with unit associate and notify Director/Manager when appropriate.

    Act as a resource to all staff to troubleshoot and maintain unit equipment. Assume super‑user status when implementing new processes/equipment.
  • Job Function 07:
    Participate in Performance Improvement. Identify processes that need change and refer them to the appropriate person. Assist in development and implementation of the unit‑based Performance Improvement Program. Incorporate evidence‑based practice and performance improvement philosophies in all actions. Support, implement, promote, and coordinate projects and programs.
  • Job Function 08:
    Monitor, guide, support, and direct staff to achieve unit‑based and organizational goals, including hospital‑associated conditions (HAC) and patient experience.
  • Job Function 09:
    Assume shared responsibility in annual performance appraisals of unit personnel. Share responsibility for writing and conducting staff Performance Appraisals as directed by the Director/Manager. Provide recommendations and documentation to Director/Manager concerning hiring, termination, and promotions of staff members. Monitor, identify, and counsel personnel in job‑related issues utilizing the progressive disciplinary process. Act as a positive role model for staff by maintaining a neat and professional appearance and promoting professional nursing practice.

    Provide clinical and behavioral guidance to staff as the situation arises. As part of the annual performance appraisal process, submit a list of year‑end accomplishments and goals that are reviewed and mutually agreed upon for the coming year.
  • Job Function 10:
    Collaborate with the leadership team on the development and recruitment of team members. Meet regulatory, licensure, annual competency, and mandatory requirements. Strive to grow through continuous professional development and participation in various committees. Maintain professional competency through participation in continuing education. Participate in performance improvement/patient safety activities. Implement and monitor action plans related to OMC/AHS surveys or units’ findings. Initiate independent decisions regarding staff requests.

    Serve as a resource person for staff within and outside the department.
