Overview
Quality Technician role at Thermon/Precision Boilers. Located in Morristown, TN 45 minutes northeast of Knoxville. Precision Boilers manufactures industry-leading electric and fuel-fired hot water boilers and steam generators plus a wide range of accessories such as deaerators and blowdown tanks.
What is the opportunity?Reporting to the Manager, Quality Assurance, the Quality Technician is responsible for conducting routine inspection of product fabrication throughout the process. Verifying code compliance and overseeing the quality of production from the initial receiving of material to hydrostatic testing and final inspection prior to shipping.
Responsibilities- Conduct Incoming Inspection of critical components and materials and verify ASME Code material as applicable.
- Inspect incoming goods, document and report inspection results. Notify warehouse personnel of conforming/acceptable product for release to inventory. For product OOS issues, correspond SCAR and notify Quality Engineer.
- Conduct routine inspection and testing at each stage of fabrication (Welding, Cabinet & Sheet metal, Electrical, Plumbing, Paint, warehouse, Shipping, etc.) as indicated on the traveler.
- Perform regular VT inspections at each stage of welding fabrication following inspection protocols.
- Assist with ASME code driven examinations (VT, MT, PT, RT) and related activities as needed.
- Assist with creation of ASME nameplates and verify data contents are complete and correct, including product labeling and stickers.
- Report nonconformances identified during routine inspection; assist with data collection and reporting via the quality gate boards and/or e-Database (Process
MAP). - Assist in conducting internal and external inspection of all vessels prior to hydrostatic testing and collect/review all paperwork required for hydrostatic testing as needed.
- Provide support with QMS documentation development and/or improvement as required.
- Participate in internal and/or external audits (ASME, QMS, suppliers, customer FATs) as needed.
- Participate in engineering drawing feedback loop for drawing and BOM changes to support production.
- May be assigned to participate in programs or initiatives to improve product or process quality (e.g., Kaizen, VSM).
- Maintain a clean and safe work area; observe safety rules and procedures.

QualificationsThe role requires completing an eye examination, Ishihara color test and visual examination (VT) qualification test. Candidate will be subject to such examinations upon hiring. The candidate must be able to obtain the following certifications within six months of start: MT, PT, VT.
Education And Experience- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED and/or 1-3 years of welding background and/or basic knowledge of ASME Code.
- Must be apt at technical problem solving (required).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with ASME Section IX requirements for Pressure Vessels.
- Strong math skills; ability to read, interpret GD&T and engineering drawings.
- Moderate lifting and walking; ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear during shift; tolerate repetitive motion.
- Must be able to lift/move more than 50 pounds.
Plant environment with some office exposure. Earplugs, safety glasses and steel-toe safety shoes are mandatory and provided by Precision Boilers.
