Overview
Copley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is looking for an EMT to join our Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Technician will work under the supervision of a nurse or provider to deliver patient care to emergency room patients. This includes preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, obtaining specimens, setting up rooms with necessary supplies and equipment, and assisting physicians and nurses during treatments.
The ED Tech functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team and must be fully versed in all areas of either emergency department or transport team operations. The ED Tech must manage multiple responsibilities, communicate department standards and expectations, and comply with all applicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and policies governing the provision of health care.
Expected primary shift will be from 10:00am to 10:00pm. Variable shifts may include 7:00am‑7:00pm and 7:00pm‑7:00am. This is a Per Diem position (FT available). Copley Hospital offers a variety of shifts across Full‑Time, Part‑Time, and Temporary needs. Compensation is negotiable and may vary based on experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market data.
Responsibilities- EMT‑Advanced or Paramedic will safely and precisely access venous circulation and draw appropriate laboratory studies per protocol after didactic and practical modules.
- Applies temporary splints and provides patients with crutch use instructions.
- Obtains EKGs, vital signs, and visual acuity; applies simple dressings and assists with ambulation / care of patients under the delegation of the Primary RN.
- Works up to the scope of practice equal to a Vermont Emergency Medical Services license while under the supervision of a provider or RN.
- Transports or escorts patients to examination areas, treatment rooms, nursing units, the morgue, etc.
- Assesses patient condition changes and reports to the nurse.
- Sets up trays and assists with procedures within scope of practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary for appropriate care of patients within the unit.
- Is familiar with simple medical laws and ethics such as consents and confidentiality.
- Knows all policies and procedures regarding admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and ED waiting room.
- Maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals and unit files.
- Ensures sufficient supplies for smooth operation, avoiding waste and utilizing time and supplies efficiently.
- Answers phone calls and refers calls to appropriate staff.
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department‑specific requirements.
- Orders and maintains supplies for the ED.
- Orients new employees to the unit.
- Displays performance reflecting current knowledge of emergency procedures and medical terminology.
- Shows flexibility in hours to reflect census.
- Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience Desired: Six months of EMT experience
- License and Certification Requirements: National Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification, CPR Certification
- License and Certification Desired: Advanced EMT or Paramedic
- Skill Requirements: Medical terminology, computer and communication skills, cardiac rhythm recognition
