Overview

Copley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is searching for a House Supervisor to join our team. The House Supervisor is the on‑site administrative representative and clinical manager who serves as a clinical resource while providing leadership, education, problem‑solving, and decision‑making accountability for all departments. This role collaborates with unit leadership, staff, and senior leadership in a dynamic, multidisciplinary manner to achieve positive outcomes by ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and policies governing the provision of health care.

The House Supervisor plans for, leads, coordinates, and facilitates the provision of quality care and service from a hospital‑wide, shift‑specific perspective in a manner that fosters accomplishment of the organization’s goals and objectives. The House Supervisor is responsible for issues related to staffing, patient/family relations, risk management, clinical coordination, patient placement, public affairs, communication, evaluation, education, and mentoring. The House Supervisor ensures appropriate distribution and allocation of supplies and equipment and provides for an adequate number and mix of staff to deliver appropriate clinical services to the patients served.

This is a Per Diem position (FT/PT available). Compensation is negotiable and may vary based on experience, education, skill, internal equity, and market data.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the planning of departmental and house‑wide program development.
  • Assist staff to develop communication skills.
  • Identify education needs for the department and participate in education offerings.
  • Supervise all hospital personnel on assigned shift; authorize removal of medications from designated areas and access the pyxis to refill pockets as needed when pharmacy is closed.
  • Engage in the process of self‑evaluation and mutual evaluation with the Senior Director of Patient Care Services.
  • Maintain Critical Access Hospital Designation.
  • Ensure staff use computerization functions appropriately and accurately.
  • Collaborate with the education department to meet staff educational needs.
  • Communicate and demonstrate support for departments’ annual plans and goals; support organization’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Consistently display a collaborative leadership style and act as a role model.
  • Demonstrate awareness of department‑specific PI activities and initiatives identified by department heads.
  • Demonstrate awareness of house‑wide specific PI activities and initiatives identified by leadership.
  • Show excellent communication and collaborate with physicians.
  • Show knowledge of RN union contact and support the NM by implementing it.
  • Develop an active and collaborative relationship with all departments.
  • Document own attendance record at educational offerings.
  • Facilitate unit/department program efforts by ensuring effective implementation of department programs with staff and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify program and systems problems; take initiative to seek resolution and communicate changes to appropriate leaders.
  • Incorporate knowledge of current issues in nursing and health care into the professional practice environment.
  • Initiate activities to develop staff through mentoring and coaching.
  • Initiate, direct, and facilitate the delivery of high‑quality, age‑appropriate care in a cost‑effective manner.
  • Maintain effective, diplomatic, and accurate communication skills.
  • Make effective decisions regarding staff and resource allocation that support patient needs and program budgets.
  • Participate in hospital‑wide and department‑level committees.
  • Participate in professional meetings and educational conferences to maintain and enhance professional competence.
  • Possess timely, collaborative decision‑making skills.
  • Serve as a liaison between units, administration, and community; interact with all departments, physicians, patients, community, and news media professionally; assist patients, families, and staff in times of crisis.
  • Support the orientation process of new employees.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills when unusual situations occur, demonstrating ability to implement action to best meet the needs of patients and staff.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, A.D.N.
  • BSN, MSN preferred.
  • Three years of experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Previous leadership experience desired.
  • Current VT RN license; current BLS and ACLS certification.
