General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, efficiently follows all company best‑practice standards, maintains a clean work area at all times, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Retail Associate is expected to be engaged in these tasks as assigned during all working hours and will be expected to perform a range of functions in all areas of the store as business needs require.

The Associate may be requested to perform additional tasks in specific situations if performance of these tasks will help achieve our customer‑service and operational goals.

Essential Functions
  • Safety first – Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything you do.
  • Maintain a safe and secure shopping environment by keeping the sales floor clutter‑free, clear egress to emergency exits, and reporting any unsafe conditions.
  • Treat all customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and friendly language.
  • Assume register training; assist customers with merchandise, answer questions politely, and respond promptly to customer service calls.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters, replenishing restroom supplies, disinfecting high‑touch areas) to maintain a neat, clean, and organized store.
  • Adhere to the company’s dress code and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Apply company best practice to all merchandising tasks, ensuring a well‑maintained store that meets presentation guidelines.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandise all items per guidelines, and maintain brand familiarity within departments.
  • Understand loss‑prevention awareness, the Shortage Highway, and product protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit‑card information, and merchandise.
  • Follow all cash, check, and refund procedures, and maintain accuracy when handling bankable tenders.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to maximize productivity by executing store best practices and minimizing steps and touches in your workflow.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required
  • Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, and pleasant manner.
