The Technical Operations Engineers are the frontline team keeping our large fleet of cloud‑hosted open‑source clusters up and running. Your work will ensure the security, reliability, and performance of world‑class systems and databases. You will collaborate with customer technical teams from globally recognised companies in gaming, banking, and logistics.
The RoleAs a Senior Technical Operations Engineer, you will be part of our Tech Ops team that maintains and supports our large fleet of cloud‑hosted Apache Cassandra, Kafka, Open Search, and other open‑source technology clusters. This role is specifically for Apache Cassandra, however we would expect you to also learn other open‑source technologies such as Apache Kafka and Elasticsearch over time. You will work with other teams, including Product Management, Development, and Customer Success to shape customer support.
Whatelse you will do:
- Provide expert Cassandra database support on incidents, diagnosing and solving data modelling and architectural issues by liaising with customer database engineers on Apache Cassandra and maintaining a high standard of customer communication.
- Undertake complex Cassandra database cluster tasks including but not limited to real‑time Cassandra migrations with no downtime, Cassandra upgrades (minor & major versions), Cassandra database performance tuning, and maintain our Cassandra fleet of 13,000+ nodes for customers.
- Provide expert Cassandra database support to our nodes running in the cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), using technologies such as Linux (Debian, Ubuntu), Docker, and languages including Java, Python, and Bash.
- Investigate issues and apply standard maintenance procedures to optimize the performance and stability of production and non‑production Cassandra databases that we manage.
- Develop and continually improve our suite of internal automation tools, applications, and processes.
- Be a proactive, reliable, and supportive member of the Cassandra Database support team, and participate in a 24/7 rotating on‑call roster.
- Minimum of 6 years working experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience in administrating Apache Cassandra clusters igning and maintaining database architecture, data structures, tables, dictionaries, and naming conventions to ensure data accuracy.
- Experience testing Cassandra database systems and upgrades, debugging, tracking, reproduction, and logging, according to approved quality testing scripts, procedures, and processes.
- Experience identifying data modelling and architectural issues with Apache Cassandra.
- Developing and managing documentation, standards, policies, and procedures related to database operations.
- Programming skills in Python, Java, Bash scripting, SQL, and source code control using Git.
- Exceptional ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal English (essential).
- Any customer service experience is favourable.
- US Citizen.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field OR Master's degree with less related experience.
The target salary range for this position is $145,000‑$153,000. The salary offered will be determined by your location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and include a comprehensive benefits package.
