Early Morning Stock Associate at Ross Stores, Inc.
General PurposeThe Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets customers, treats fellow associates with respect, follows company best practices, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Associate may be requested to perform additional tasks to help achieve customer service and operational goals.
Essential Functions- Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything we do.
- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Keep egress to emergency exits clear and clutter‑free and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; be friendly and professional at all times.
- Assist customers at the register, provide merchandise information, answer questions politely and knowledgeably, and greet everyone with eye contact, a smile, and a “hello.”
- Respond to customer service calls immediately and handle all customer issues courteously, escalating to store leadership when necessary.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high‑touch areas.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the company’s dress code.
- Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery according to best practice, ensuring a neat, clean, and organized store.
- Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor with urgency, merchandize items per the monthly presentation guidelines, and maintain brand familiarity within departments.
- Understand the Loss Prevention Awareness program, the Shortage Highway, and merchandise protection standards.
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions and safeguard confidential information, cash, card information, and merchandise.
- Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies, process MOS items correctly, and notify store leadership of approved disposals.
- Follow all policies for cash, check, credit card, and refund transactions, maintain accuracy with bankable tenders.

- Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership friendly, respectfully, and cooperatively.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Use all store equipment including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
- Stand, walk, and move around the store for the majority of the shift.
- Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
- Push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds occasionally.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
- Some tasks may require additional qualifications and skills.
- Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.
