JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to lead an assigned crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing installation, maintenance, and repair work on CCWA water distribution systems and wastewater conveyance systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned crew or co‑workers; confer with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organize tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitor status of work in progress and inspect completed work; assist co‑workers with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; train and instruct co‑workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment;

    supervise co‑workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations.
  • Receive and review work orders; read and interpret mapping systems, roadway plans, and related documentation; determine and gather equipment, tools, parts, and supplies needed to conduct work activities; ensure availability of adequate parts and materials; initiate requests for new or replacement materials as required.
  • Monitor work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiate any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinate setup of work safety zones to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; monitor traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions;

    report any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations; ensure safety policies/procedures are followed.
  • Test the atmosphere in confined spaces for hazardous conditions according to Confined Work Space Training; determine when it is safe to enter.
  • Lead and participate in the repair or replacement of water mains, sewer lines, water services, stormwater, fire hydrants, fire hydrant control valves, water system control valves, retrofit of large metered/fire connections with backflow devices, or other distribution system components as assigned; survey work areas before work begins; confirm location of utilities prior to starting excavation; check and complete street cut repair orders and landscaping requests;

    complete field measurements and drawings to update changes to the water system for GIS; set up job; flush and sterilize water lines; assist CCTV crew; and ensure all repairs and work activities are completed correctly and that applicable standards are maintained.
  • Coordinate and supervise crew on the installation and repair of both residential and commercial meters and fire lines; ensure that the meter for each account is the appropriate type and is assembled correctly.
  • Perform flow/accuracy tests on commercial and residential water meters; repair, maintain, and troubleshoot meters; install and inspect new meters and backflow prevention devices; repair, maintain, test, and troubleshoot hydrant meters for contractual use; operate and flush fire hydrants; operate and maintain gate valves; and repair and maintain residential and commercial service lines and water mains.
  • Maintain assigned equipment; perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment, sharpening blades, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, etc.; monitor equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; report faulty equipment; and maintain related records and logs.
  • Process a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations within designated time frames and per established procedures; prepare, complete, and maintain work orders, inspection reports, after-hours reports, repair reports, SSO reports for spills, purchasing card forms, confined space entry forms, spill reports, spill…
