The Henry County District Attorney’s Office (Flint Judicial Circuit, approximately 30 minutes south of Atlanta) currently has an opening for a Victim Advocate with Magistrate Court
. This position will work closely with victims in felony cases to guide them through the beginning stages of the criminal justice system, specifically from arrest through the case being bound over to Superior Court.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate efforts to serve victims of crimes by working with law enforcement agencies and Magistrate Court to put in place and maintain victim notification procedures from the time of the offender’s arrest through the case being bound over to Superior Court.
  • Attend all Magistrate Court hearings and notify victims of felony crimes about the proceedings and outcomes of the court hearings. Court‑appropriate dress is required.
  • Provide referral information and assistance to victims regarding the criminal justice system, victim’s compensation, restitution, counseling services, emergency shelter, and area support groups for victims of homicide, sexual assault, family violence.
  • Provide information to law enforcement agencies and community service providers regarding the crime victims’ bill of rights, information concerning the criminal justice system, and area service providers including crime victims’ compensation for felony victims of crime.
  • Enter data regarding victim services, as required, into Tracker data entry system regarding victim contact and services provided. Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as computer and telephone skills, are necessary.
  • Abide by the policies and procedures of the District Attorney’s Office, the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and VOCA as applicable to this position.
  • Travel to Magistrate Court at the Henry County Jail on a daily basis (required for this position). Valid driver’s license and transportation required.
  • Complete necessary training within first six months of employment (Victim’s Assistance Training –VAT‑online) and other training as provided and made available. Attend at least eight (8) hours victim assistance training annually including victim’s compensation training approved by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council within six months of employment.
Applicants are required to have:
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated or equal to an undergraduate degree in fields of study such as criminal justice, human services, paralegal studies or other related fields, as well as advanced administrative assistant and organizational skills.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the program and the workings of the criminal justice system.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and the impact of crime on victims.
  • Knowledge of and experience with word‑processing, using databases, spreadsheets, the internet and email.
  • Ability to work with and provide services to individuals of all backgrounds and cultures, as well as the ability to work well with and at the direction of the District Attorney and Program Director.
  • Ability to work with various agency representatives to coordinate services.

Superior customer service skills, positive attitude, personal responsibility and a strong sense of responsibility to the community at large is preferred. All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre‑employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
