Position Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho invites applications for a full‑time faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor. Rank is negotiable based on the candidate’s qualifications. Candidates with a strong commitment to teaching excellence and service, whose teaching complements existing departmental strengths, are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants should have the ability and expertise to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in one of the traditional areas of Mechanical Engineering.
They will be assigned courses that may include laboratory and project components in addition to conventional lecture components. Some courses may be delivered virtually, either synchronously or asynchronously. Applicants should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and will be expected to participate in departmental, college, and university service and leadership activities. They will also be expected to provide academic and professional advising to undergraduate and graduate students.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience with written and oral communication to a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Currently hold or possess the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license within 5 years.
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
- Experience developing and teaching mechanical engineering courses.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
- Ability to teach hands‑on laboratory courses with team project assignments.
- Expertise in engineering systems (dynamics, controls, mechatronics, thermal, fluids).
- Expertise in engineering design (mechanics, team‑based, numerical, computer‑aided).
- Ability to develop and teach upper‑level undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Demonstrated ability to teach virtually, either synchronously or asynchronously.
- Experience with collaborative teaching efforts.
- Commitment to professionalism in engineering education.
