The Assistant Director, Building Operations has leadership and supervisory responsibility for the operations of all assigned multi-use facilities. The Idaho Student Union Building, Pitman Center, P1

FCU Kibbie Dome, and ICCU Arena serve as the backdrop for concerts, athletics events and more, providing student engagement and entertainment to the University of Idaho community. This role oversees the administration and operations of these multi-use facilities, ensuring they are safe, well-maintained and optimally utilized. Key duties include overseeing space planning, maintenance, security and emergency procedures, while collaborating with university departments and local agencies.

The position also involves hiring, training and supervising staff, managing budgets and resources, and improving operational efficiency. The Assistant Director is a highly visible member of the Campus Services team, working collaboratively with other Auxiliary Services units as needed.

  • Two years of leadership experience in higher education or facility management
  • Experience with planning, directing, and evaluating in a complex operation

Required Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Required Other

  • Ability to work nonstandard business hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles

Additional Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or 4 additional years of leadership and experience in higher education or facility management, (6 years’ total)
  • Experience managing multiple large-scale or multi-use facilities in a University setting
  • Development and implementation of programs, activities and large-scale projects, which include conceptualizing, coordinate detailed plans, and follow through to meet deadlines
  • Visioning and realizing outcome-based events that promote or support organizational objectives
  • Experience managing multiple projects and events with competing timelines
  • Experience maintaining a calm and professional demeanour in a high-stress environment, identifying and independently resolving problems swiftly
  • Knowledge of carpentry, general building maintenance and mechanical systems
  • IAVM Certified Venue Professional or Certified Venue Executive
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop and reach frequently
  • Ability to work inside and outside
