The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership.
The AIT is a stepping‑stone to the Assistant Manager role, which adds high‑level duties while sharing many core responsibilities.

SalesGeneration and Guest Service
- Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
- Show eagerness and assertiveness when answering questions about the store and its merchandise.
- Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs and desires.
- Anticipate and fulfill guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe‑building experience.
- Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education, consistently sharing that knowledge with teammates.
- Maintain and share knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices.
- Remain consistent on personal sales and seek opportunities to improve teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).
- Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by store management.
- Provide legendary service across Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
- Understand all exchange and return procedures and use them as show‑making opportunities.
- Fill out and effectively use the SPG daily to accomplish goals.
- Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty initiatives.
- Investigate and navigate ways to expand guest selection through inventory manager, advanced product search, iPad apps, etc.
- Maintain and build good guest relationships to develop client‑based business.
- Lead by example with high levels of show‑making and excellent customer service.
- Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team.
- Show passion for asking business‑driven and show‑making questions to managers, team leaders, and teammates.
- Coachable and consistently welcome feedback from managers to improve sales presentations.
- Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether or not the manager is present.
- Plan sales goals with store manager.
- Demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance (sales, average sale, business builders, denim).
- Show passion for product education and show‑making to create results.
- Consistently recognize recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals, and teammate recommendations.
- Coach and build relationships through guest loyalty and guest preferred programs.
- Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating, and educating new teammates to meet Buckle accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards.
- Maintain a positive attitude and floor culture.
- Demonstrate personal dress code to encourage and coach teammates and team leaders.
- Participate effectively in daily setup, training, impact, and review while utilizing the Performance Tracker.
- Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks set by store management.
- Show passion for coaching denim show‑making and denim fit cards through teammates and guests.
