The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific assigned area of the Store and for general operations when acting as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly and efficient environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and enforcing company operational processes.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments- Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors.
- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor, correct or report unsafe conditions.
- Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS devices, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety including accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
- Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance and ensure associates adhere to the dress code.
- Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks when needed.
- Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Responsible for receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.
- Ensure any back‑stock is secured and processed to policy.
- Merchandise the department including back stock.
- Reduce loss due to damage.
- Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines.
- Conduct floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
- Perform re‑wraps as needed.
- Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program.
- Maintain a large customer‑service presence on the sales floor.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.
- Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
- Execute company best practices to maximize productivity.
- Administer company best practices and minimize steps and extra touches.
- Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the front end.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures.
- Control retail associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
- Ensure all equipment is working properly.
- Maintain supplies and recovery for the front‑end area.
- Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.
- Teach all associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end and in specialty racks.
- Maintain and clean fitting rooms.
- Audit all fitting‑room garment tags per company policy.
- Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day.
- Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy.
- Manage front‑end control, refund approval, associate purchase approval, and cash handling procedures.
- Administer payroll, including daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
