Job Description
The City of Moses Lake is seeking a Finance Director for this vibrant community of 27,000 located in the heart of central Washington's Columbia Basin along the shores of its namesake lake. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, Moses Lake is a popular vacation destination for those looking to enjoy the warm sun and one of the largest freshwater lakes in the state.
The city also serves as the industrial and economic center of Grant County.
THE CITY OF MOSES LAKE
Moses Lake is a full-service city operating under the Council-Manager form of government. The City serves a population of 27,530 across 21 square miles with a 2026 total budget of $125 million and a team of 286 FTEs. Departments include City Manager, City Attorney, Community Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Public Works, Police, Technology Services, Utilities, and Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services.
City Hall operates from a Civic Center in the nine-acre Civic Center Park that includes City Administration, Finance, Utilities, Police, and the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center.
WHY APPLY
For a municipal finance professional, this is a compelling build-on-success opportunity in a full-service city with a strong revenue portfolio with a diverse and growing economy (ag-tech, aviation, green tech, tourism, and more). The City is in a strong financial position, generating approximately $11 million annually in sales tax and $12 million in property tax, and carries very little general obligation debt—creating real opportunity for strategic investment.
The retiring Finance Director leaves after a very successful three-year turnaround, having created an excellent foundation for a premier municipal Finance Department. The 2026 annual budget is adopted, providing stability, while the City moves toward converting to a biennial budget. The new Finance Director will join a strong, capable, and collaborative executive leadership team and play a central role in high-impact work ranging from community-wide financial sustainability and priority setting to major finance modernization initiatives.
