- Reviews schedules, organizes patient flow, and escorts patients to exam rooms; assists patients as needed with walking transfers; prepares for exam; takes and records height, weight, vitals, temperature, and head circumference when applicable.
- Prepares for exam: collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines.
- Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving; checking vital signs; preparing for physical examinations; clinical pharmacology; drug administration through various routes including injections; prescription verifications with physician orders; minor surgery assistance including surgical tray setup pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings, and suture removal; biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics, and home care;
laboratory procedures including OSHA guidelines; quality control methods; CLIA-waived testing; and specimen handling. - Conducts and administers tests and procedures such as pregnancy tests, occult blood tests, hematocrits, blood draws, peak flows, glucose monitoring, PPDs, injections, immunizations, Snellen tests, EKGs, Ishihara color tests, rapid strep tests, tympanograms, and dipstick urine samples.
- Assists with suture removal, wound care (wound packing, simple dressings), nebulizer treatments, and catheterization.
- Assists providers with procedures including pelvic exams, Pap smears, office surgeries, and throat cultures.
- Notifies patients of specialist appointments and makes appropriate insurance referrals; notifies patients of test results; calls in prescription refills as requested by provider.
- Performs clerical responsibilities that support overall clinic operations; communicates with patients and maintains confidentiality per HIPAA policy.
- Performs environmental responsibilities such as setting up instruments, cleaning rooms and equipment between visits, maintaining infection control, ordering and restocking supplies.
- Uses necessary equipment with safety measures; reports problems to Clinic Nursing Manager/Supervisor; maintains ethical conduct and infection control practices.
- May be exposed to varying situations; handles emergencies or crises and responds to emergency codes; communicates issues to supervisor.
- Maintains professional growth through seminars and affiliations to stay current in the field.
- Follows safe work practices to prevent injuries; complies with organizational policies and procedures and labor agreements.
- Interacts with team members and support groups in a courteous and efficient manner aligned with organizational values.
- Maintains professional appearance and behavior appropriate to the role; undertakes additional accountabilities as required by management.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Active license in the State of Washington as a Medical Assistant-Certified.
- Current (Healthcare Provider level) CPR certification.
- Experience in a clinic setting providing support to providers in medical specialties preferred.
- Demonstrates competency with equipment listed on department checklists.

- Accountability and safe judgment; practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
- Ability to care for patients across age groups.
- Frequent standing/walking; occasional lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
- Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to transfer patients and handle manual tasks; manual dexterity and mobility.
- Ability to read and understand patient charts and orders; verbal and written communication with staff and patients.
