Overview

As a Registered Nurse, you are responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame, implementing the Nursing Process. You work closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Samaritan Healthcare is designated as a Trauma Level III by the Washington State Department of Health (WSDH). This position reports to the Charge Nurse, Department Director, and other designated supervisory staff on duty.

This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week, from 6:45am to 5:15pm with mandatory scheduled call.

Compensation & Incentives

Up to $7,500 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Advance Agreement. (External candidates only.)

Essential Functions
  • Performs assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilization of/adherence to pre-determined procedures, policies and care plans.
  • Identifies patient/significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
  • Documents in patient charts via electronic medical records and/or paper processes, per policy and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient/significant other and family rights, regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, sex, national origin, or any other protected classification, and regardless of ability to pay.
  • Demonstrates appropriate delegation of patient care activities and supervises assigned coworkers when necessary.
  • Demonstrates organization and priority setting with sound critical thinking.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of lines of authority.
  • May be required to function as a Charge Nurse, including delegation of patient assignments, coordination of admits/discharges/transfers, coordinating staff coverage for breaks, problem-solving, and leading the unit.
  • Maintains professional growth through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to stay current in the field.
  • Functions with awareness of safety requirements (security, safety, MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics).
  • Ensures compliance with organization policies, procedures and labor agreements.
  • Ensures courteous and efficient interface with team members and other support groups.
  • Maintains professional appearance and conducts oneself to meet job requirements and represent the organization.
Peri-Operative Unit – Surgery
  • ACLS (AHA Advanced Life Support) certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
  • PALS (AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PEARS (AHA Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
  • Moderate sedation training to be completed within 6 months of hire.
  • CNOR certification preferred.
  • Total Joint Program Requirements and Expectations:
    Continuing Education (8 hours orientation, 8 hours annual).
  • Performance expectations:
    Follow the pathway for total joint replacement dependent on area of specialty.
Work Environment

The individual in this position reports to the Nursing Department Director, House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and other designated supervisory staff on duty. This position works closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.

Education & Experience
  • Education:

    Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • License:
    Current Washington State RN Licensure.
  • Certification: HCP Level of BLS within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent.
  • Experience:

    Acute care registered nurse experience preferred; minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.
  • Skills/

    Competencies:

    Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care; strong critical thinking; accountability within legal and ethical guidelines; crisis management; competency across age groups; equipment competency.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs; ability to manage multiple pieces of equipment and tubes.
  • Physical strength for CPR and lifting tasks as needed, with ability to perform for extended periods.
  • Good vision and communication skills; able to work under high stress and maintain effective working relationships.
