Job GoalAssist classroom teacher in performing instructional or clerical duties and deliver services to students or parents.
Reports ToBuilding Principal & Community-Based SPED Teacher
Qualifications- Associate Degree or higher, or two years of college credits or Work Keys Test
- Prefer one year of experience working in a SPED classroom
- Must enjoy working with children from a wide range of cultural backgrounds/disabilities
- Must show initiative and follow teacher's instructions
- Good writing communication skills
- Ability to push students in wheelchair and lifting required
- Spanish a plus but not required
- Official copy of transcript or Work Keys test required
- Provide assistance to students with special needs or those with physical and mental disabilities
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, or on field trips
- Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs, personal hygiene care, feeding, issuance of medications under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists
- Observe student's performance and record relevant data to assess program
- Participate in faculty meetings, parent conferences, curriculum planning and preparation, student activities, assemblies and discipline management
- Plan, prepare and develop various teaching aids such as charts, audio-visual aids, etc.
- Distribute teaching materials to students (textbooks, workbooks, paper, pencils, etc.)
- Distribute tests and homework assignments, collect when completed
- Assist in bus loading and unloading
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
Must work indoors/outdoors supervising students, must stand, walk, bend constantly; frequent kneeling; some student disabilities may require lifting and pulling; work can be physically and emotionally challenging.

SalarySalary commensurate with years of experience as determined under the policies and procedures of the Moss Point School District in accordance with the District's pay scale.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Trustees' policy on evaluation of District personnel.
