Category Manager - Confectionery & Snacks; FMCG

Our client, a highly respected player in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, is looking for a strategic and data-driven Category Manager to oversee the Confectionery & Snacks categories within the Mossel Bay, Western Cape region. This role is crucial for driving category growth, optimizing product assortment, managing supplier relationships, and maximizing profitability. You will be responsible for developing and executing category strategies that align with consumer trends and market opportunities in the Mossel Bay area.

The ideal candidate will possess a keen understanding of the FMCG market, strong analytical capabilities, and proven experience in category management. This is a hands-on role based at our Mossel Bay operations, requiring close collaboration with sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure the success of these popular product lines. We seek a forward-thinking individual capable of identifying emerging trends and capitalizing on them to drive category performance.

• Develop and implement comprehensive category strategies for Confectionery & Snacks to achieve sales, market share, and profitability objectives.
• Analyze sales data, market trends, consumer insights, and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities and risks.
• Manage product assortment, pricing strategies, promotions, and new product introductions within the assigned categories.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiating favourable terms, pricing, and promotional support.
• Collaborate closely with the marketing team to develop and execute effective marketing and promotional plans for the categories.
• Work with the sales team to ensure effective implementation of category plans at the retail level and provide them with necessary support and insights.
• Manage category budgets and monitor performance against key financial metrics.
• Stay abreast of industry developments, emerging trends, and best practices in category management within the FMCG sector.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies within the Western Cape context.

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in Category Management, Brand Management, or a related role within the FMCG industry.
• Proven track record in developing and executing successful category strategies that have driven growth.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into actionable plans.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of retail operations and consumer behaviour in the FMCG sector.
• Proficiency in category management software, market data analysis tools (e.g., Nielsen), and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape.
• A passion for the Confectionery & Snacks categories and the FMCG market.
