About the Role

Our client seeks a skilled and experienced Remote Quantity Surveyor to manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures. Working remotely, you will ensure that all relevant costs are monitored and controlled, providing crucial financial insights and strategic advice to our client’s project teams. This position demands a rigorous approach to cost management, a deep understanding of construction contracts, and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with geographically dispersed colleagues.

You will be instrumental in securing the financial success of projects, ensuring value for money and mitigating financial risks, operating from your home office, ideally within proximity to Mossel Bay .

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and Bills of Quantities for construction projects based on architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Manage tender processes, including pre-qualification of contractors and analysis of bids to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Administer construction contracts, including managing variations, claims, and final accounts, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
  • Monitor project expenditure, forecast costs, and provide regular financial reports to project management and stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits as necessary to assess progress, verify work completed, and identify potential cost overruns.
  • Advise on procurement strategies and contract conditions to optimize project outcomes and minimize financial exposure.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating software and standard measurement practices (e.g., SMM, NRM).
  • In-depth knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JBCC) and dispute resolution processes.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and experience working effectively in a remote capacity.
