About the Role
Our client is seeking a strategic and innovative Mine Planning Engineer to contribute to their operations near Mossel Bay. This role involves developing short-term and long-term mine plans to maximize resource recovery while ensuring operational efficiency and safety. You will utilize advanced modeling software to design extraction sequences, production schedules, and infrastructure layouts for both open-pit and underground mining operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset and a deep understanding of geological data, mine economics, and optimization techniques relevant to the mining sector.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans, including production targets, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Create detailed 3D models and designs for mine layouts, haul roads, and infrastructure.
- Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for mine development projects.
- Integrate geological data, survey information, and operational constraints into mine plans.
- Liaise with geology, operations, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and successful plan execution.
- Continuously review and update mine plans based on performance data and changing site conditions.
- Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine planning engineering, with exposure to different mining methods.
- Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Whittle, or similar.
- Strong understanding of geological modeling, resource estimation, and mine economics.
- Experience with open-pit and/or underground mine design and scheduling.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
