About the Role
Our client seeks a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to challenging projects within the Mossel Bay region. This role focuses on assessing subsurface conditions and providing expert advice on foundation design for various structures, including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure developments. You will conduct site investigations, analyze soil and rock mechanics, and develop practical, safe, and cost-effective geotechnical solutions. This position requires a blend of field expertise and analytical rigor, working in a hybrid capacity that combines on-site assessments with office-based design and reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and execute geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, soil sampling, and in-situ testing.
- Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to determine engineering properties and parameters.
- Design shallow and deep foundations (e.g., spread footings, piles, rafts) for various structures.
- Provide recommendations for earthworks, slope stability, and ground improvement techniques.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical investigation reports and foundation design documents.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines regarding geotechnical aspects of projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in geotechnical investigations and foundation design.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and design (e.g., PLAXIS, Geo Studio).
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology.
- Experience with field testing methods and interpretation of laboratory test results.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a hybrid environment.
