Geothermal Energy Project Developer

Our client is seeking an innovative and strategic Geothermal Energy Project Developer to identify, evaluate, and advance geothermal energy projects in the Mossel Bay region and beyond. This critical role involves navigating the entire project lifecycle, from initial site prospecting and resource assessment to securing permits, financing, and managing stakeholder relations. You will be at the forefront of developing sustainable geothermal power solutions, contributing to a diverse and expanding renewable energy portfolio.

The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of technical understanding, business acumen, and a strong network within the energy development sector in the Western Cape .

• Identify and evaluate potential sites for geothermal energy development, including geological surveys and resource assessments.
• Develop business cases and financial models for geothermal projects, securing necessary funding and investment.
• Navigate complex regulatory landscapes, securing all required permits, licenses, and environmental approvals.
• Manage relationships with landowners, local communities, government agencies, and technology providers.
• Oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phases of geothermal projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
• Stay informed about advancements in geothermal technology, policy, and market opportunities to drive project innovation.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Geological, Mechanical, or Electrical), Geology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in project development, preferably within the renewable energy sector, with specific experience in geothermal energy.
• Proven track record in securing financing, permits, and stakeholder buy-in for large-scale energy projects.
• Strong understanding of geothermal resource assessment techniques and power plant technologies.
• Excellent negotiation, communication skills , and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge of the regulatory and energy market environment in South Africa is essential.
