Our client is seeking a dedicated Electrical Engineer specializing in Substation Design to join their expanding engineering department in Mossel Bay . This role is integral to the design and development of high-voltage substations that are critical for the region's energy infrastructure. You will be responsible for creating detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for substation components, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
The position requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, familiarity with industry-specific software, and a collaborative approach to working within project teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer passionate about contributing to South Africa's energy landscape.
- Design and engineer high-voltage substation layouts, including electrical equipment placement and grounding systems.
- Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams for protection, control, and metering systems.
- Specify and select major electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and busbars.
- Perform load flow , short-circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Prepare technical specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM), and equipment requisitions.
- Collaborate with civil engineers, construction teams, and clients to ensure design feasibility and successful project delivery.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in substation design or related power systems engineering.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and electrical design tools.
- Solid understanding of high-voltage equipment , protection schemes, and power system analysis.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE) is essential.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for design accuracy .
