Process Safety Engineer

Our client, a key player in the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Process Safety Engineer to join their facility in Mossel Bay, Western Cape . This vital role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained throughout all operational processes, safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment. The Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing process safety management (PSM) systems, conducting risk assessments, and driving a proactive safety culture.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of process safety principles, relevant regulations, and best practices within the energy sector. • Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Oversee the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program for critical process equipment.
• Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant process safety regulations and industry standards.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to operational and technical staff.
• Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews to assess safety implications of process modifications.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for process safety and report on performance.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies and ensure permits and licenses related to process safety are maintained.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements (e.g., OSHA , COMAH) and industry best practices.
• Proven experience in conducting PHAs and developing safety studies.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and their application.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in Mossel Bay, Western Cape , and collaborate with diverse teams.
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) are a significant advantage.
• Familiarity with South African safety regulations is preferred.
