Industrial Engineer - Plant Layout and Workflow Design

Our client, a well-established manufacturing entity in Mossel Bay , Western Cape , is seeking a dedicated Industrial Engineer to focus on plant layout and workflow design. This role is crucial for optimizing the physical arrangement of facilities and the flow of materials and personnel to enhance productivity and safety. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong spatial reasoning abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing operations.

You will work closely with production teams, management, and external consultants to develop efficient and ergonomic work spaces. The role demands a full-time presence at the Mossel Bay facility to effectively execute design and implementation tasks.

• Develop and optimize plant layouts, material flow, and workstation designs to improve efficiency and reduce non-value-added activities.
• Analyze existing production processes and identify opportunities for improvement in ergonomics, safety, and throughput.
• Utilize CAD software to create detailed plant layout drawings, material handling routes, and equipment placement plans.
• Conduct simulation studies to evaluate the impact of proposed layout changes on production flow and resource utilization.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and safety teams to ensure that new layouts meet all operational and regulatory requirements.
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to material handling, workstation setup, and workflow processes.
• Perform time studies and workflow analysis to establish benchmarks and identify areas for improvement.
• Investigate and recommend appropriate material handling equipment and systems.
• Assist in the planning and execution of plant expansions or relocations.
• Ensure the integration of Lean manufacturing principles into all layout and workflow designs.

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in industrial engineering, with a specific focus on plant layout, facility design, and workflow optimization.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works) for creating detailed layouts and 3D models.
• Experience with simulation software for analyzing material flow and production systems.
• Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, ergonomics, and safety standards in an industrial environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent visualization and communication skills, with the ability to present design concepts effectively.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Mossel Bay , Western Cape , as this role requires full on-site commitment.
