Bioinformatician - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Bioinformatician to join their advanced Genomics research group in Mossel Bay . This role is critical for analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, developing computational tools, and uncovering insights into complex biological systems. You will work closely with molecular biologists and geneticists to interpret sequencing data, identify genetic variations, and contribute to research aimed at understanding disease mechanisms and developing personalized medicine approaches.

• Analyze high-throughput sequencing data (e.g., WGS, RNA-Seq) using specialized bioinformatics pipelines.
• Develop and implement computational algorithms and statistical methods for genomic data analysis.
• Identify and annotate genetic variants associated with phenotypes or disease states.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists to design sequencing experiments and interpret results.
• Maintain and manage genomic databases and contribute to the development of visualization tools.

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Perl, with experience in bioinformatics libraries.
• Proficiency with command-line tools and experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
• Solid understanding of genomic data types , sequence alignment, and variant calling.
• Experience with genomics databases (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl) and analysis platforms.
