About the Role

Our client is looking for a passionate Research Scientist with expertise in Marine Biology & Ecology to join their dynamic team in Mossel Bay . This role is central to conducting critical research on marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation efforts along the coast. You will be involved in designing and executing field studies, collecting and analyzing biological samples, and contributing to impactful scientific publications and policy recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement field research projects focused on marine biodiversity, population dynamics, and ecosystem health.
  • Conduct underwater surveys, sample collection (biological and environmental), and laboratory analyses.
  • Utilize marine ecological modeling techniques and statistical software for data analysis.
  • Contribute to the writing of research proposals, grant applications, and peer-reviewed scientific publications.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and other research institutions on marine conservation initiatives.
  • Present research findings at scientific conferences and public outreach events.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Marine Biology, Ecology, Oceanography, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of research experience in marine biology or ecology, preferably with field experience.
  • Proficiency in marine species identification, ecological survey methods, and data analysis.
  • Experience with research vessel operations and scientific diving certification is a plus.
  • Strong quantitative skills and experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for scientific reporting and dissemination.
