Position: Contracts Engineer - Piling & Ground Engineering )

About the role

Amazing infrastructure isn’t the only thing that gets built here. Incredible careers do too. Join Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering as a Contracts Engineer based in Motherwell and you’ll play a key role in delivering piling and geotechnical solutions across a growing portfolio of projects throughout Scotland. Working as part of our specialist engineering team, you’ll support the successful delivery of complex foundation works while developing your career within one of the UK’s leading ground engineering businesses.

As Contracts Engineer, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of piling works across a range of projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, and operational teams, you will help manage the civil piling aspects of projects through the planning, design, and construction phases, ensuring that works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and reviewing project plans, specifications, and construction drawings while coordinating with design teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure projects run smoothly. You will also carry out site inspections and technical assessments to confirm that works are compliant with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice.

You will play an important part in supporting project delivery by preparing and managing key site documentation including Project Management Plans, ITPs, Work Package Plans and RAMS. Monitoring productivity, analysing delays, and supporting project planning and scheduling will also form part of your responsibilities to help optimise delivery across multiple schemes.

Working closely with internal teams and subcontractors, you will help ensure resources are coordinated effectively and that construction activities align with contractual obligations, design specifications, and the wider project management plan. You will also contribute to the development and review of construction method statements to ensure safe and efficient execution of works.

Who we're looking for

A strong focus on health, safety, and environmental performance will be central to the role. You will support the implementation of HS&E procedures, contribute to the preparation and review of risk assessments, and help promote behavioural safety initiatives across site to ensure a culture where safety is always the priority.

To be successful in this position, you will have experience within the construction industry and an understanding of the delivery of civil engineering projects across different scales. You will be confident communicating with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders at all levels, both verbally and in writing, and will possess strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

You will demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple teams, manage scheme costs, and support the delivery of projects safely, on time, and within budget. Candidates should hold SMSTS or SSSTS certification and possess a valid CSCS card.

Experience working for a piling, ground engineering, or civil engineering subcontractor would be advantageous, as would a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.

At Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering, you’ll be part of a specialist team delivering innovative geotechnical and foundation solutions on major infrastructure projects across the UK. In return, we offer the opportunity to develop your career within a collaborative and forward‑thinking business that values expertise, safety, and professional growth.
