Join Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering as a Contracts Engineer based in Motherwell and you’ll play a key role in delivering piling and geotechnical solutions across a growing portfolio of projects throughout Scotland. Working as part of our specialist engineering team, you’ll support the successful delivery of complex foundation works while developing your career within one of the UK’s leading ground engineering businesses.
As Contracts Engineer, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of piling works across a range of projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, and operational teams, you will help manage the civil piling aspects of projects through the planning, design, and construction phases, ensuring that works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
What you’ll be doing- Developing and reviewing project plans, specifications, and construction drawings while coordinating with design teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure projects run smoothly.
- Carrying out site inspections and technical assessments to confirm that works are compliant with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice.
- Preparing and managing key site documentation including Project Management Plans, ITPs, Work Package Plans and RAMS.
- Monitoring productivity, analysing delays, and supporting project planning and scheduling to optimise delivery across multiple schemes.
- Coordinating resources effectively and ensuring construction activities align with contractual obligations, design specifications, and the wider project management plan.
- Contributing to the development and review of construction method statements to ensure safe and efficient execution of works.
- A strong focus on health, safety, and environmental performance with a central role in implementing HS&E procedures, preparing risk assessments, and promoting behavioural safety initiatives.
- Experience with in the construction industry and an understanding of civil engineering project delivery across different scales.
- Strong communication skills with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders at all levels, verbally and in writing.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to coordinate multiple teams, manage scheme costs, and support safe, on‑time, and within‑budget project delivery.
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification and a valid CSCS card.
- Experience with piling, ground engineering, or civil engineering subcontractors and a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent qualification are advantageous.
