Traffic Signal Engineer

We are looking for Engineers, Senior Engineers or Principal Engineers to join our Consulting Services team. This senior technical role requires close collaboration with cross‑functional teams and direct engagement with customers to drive complex traffic engineering projects to completion.

Please note: this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the Health & Safety and professional development of your direct reports (where applicable)
  • Deliver a wide range of traffic engineering projects across the UK to high standard, in accordance with national and local standards, guidance and best practice
  • Apply ergonomic, economic and sustainable principles to project delivery
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with traffic engineering projects
  • Travel for site visits, validations and customer meetings, including overnight stays when appropriate
  • Prepare technical reports and specifications
  • Conduct technical checking/approval of traffic engineering schemes before delivery to customers
  • Prepare consultancy/design quotations
  • Manage projects and track financial performance
Qualifications & Experience
  • High level of communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to solve complex traffic engineering problems and manage customer expectations
  • Ability to achieve objectives within strict deadlines and manage own and others’ workload
  • Technical, in‑depth understanding and proven track record of key traffic engineering competencies, including:
  • Traffic signal design fundamentals and UK standards/specifications
  • Traffic engineering software:
    AutoCAD, Key Signals, Lin Sig or Transyt
  • Traffic signal products across the industry
  • Systems such as UTC or UTMC
  • Adaptive control strategies such as SCOOT or MOVA, including setup and on‑site validation
  • Factory and site acceptance testing
Educational Requirements
  • HNC/HND/Degree level in engineering or a related subject, preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
