Responsibilities
- Provide general security, traffic control and public relations for community functions such as the Festival in the Park, parades, Night to Unite, and other community events.
- Assist the Police and Fire Departments with general security, traffic control and public relations in times of natural disaster and major emergencies.
- Assist licensed officers with general security, traffic control, as needed, at motor vehicle accidents, medical calls and other calls as requested by licensed officers.
- Receive training during ride‑alongs with licensed police officers for the purpose of gaining additional knowledge and experience.
- Assist the Police Department staff, as needed and requested, with non‑priority calls.
- Assist the Police Department with administrative duties.
- Volunteer a minimum of eight (8) hours a month, attend meetings and training as requested by the Reserve Coordinator.
- Reserve Officers assist with prisoner transports, vehicle lockouts, vehicle impounds, medical assists, animal calls and community outreach events.
- Be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
- Must have a strong desire to serve the City of Mounds View.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid class D state driver’s license and have a good driving record.
- Pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
- Pass a thorough background check, including a criminal history check.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in written form.
- Ability to write reports or document incidents, with training provided.
- Ability to make a positive contribution to the department by working cooperatively with peers and supervisors.
- Ability to respond to or assist with basic calls for service, community events and emergency medical situations, with training provided.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Police Department staff and the general public.
- Ability to participate in department training sessions and community events at the required levels.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, common sense, trustworthiness and honesty.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Employees are required to perform the duties of this job in an office environment with intermittent standing, walking, reaching, pulling, typing/data entry, talking, hearing, and close and distance vision. Hazardous physical conditions, hazardous materials, extreme temperatures, intense noise, and travel may be required. This position is not eligible for benefits.
