Executive Summary
The Classroom Teacher will be responsible for meeting the academic, physical, and socio‑emotional needs of the children to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Utilization of developmentally appropriate practices is an expectation. The teacher will create an environment that facilitates learning, personal growth, and care, and will establish positive working relationships with all staff members and parents.
Essential Duties And Functions
- Meets eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis.
- Establishes and maintains standards of child behavior to create a safe and orderly teaching and learning environment.
- Creates a learning environment based on current and appropriate research.
- Provides whole group, small-group, and individual instruction designed to meet the individual needs of children.
- Develops daily and long-range lesson plans to provide whole group, small group, and individual student experiences appropriate to each child’s needs.
- Taught the district‑approved curriculum using district adopted instructional materials.
- Implements developmentally appropriate instructional practices and approaches.
- Evaluates children’s intellectual and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and assists in preparing progress reports.
- Provides immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss a child’s development and interpret the school program.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.
- Participates in team and building meetings as well as projects and parent‑related activities.
- Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with support staff.
- Supervises students in out‑of‑class activities during the assigned work‑day.
- Fulfills conditions in the negotiated agreement.
- Assumes other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
- Iowa Teaching Certification with endorsement in the content area.
