About you and this role

Pension Investments within Treasury is seeking a Treasury Specialist, located in Midland (MI, USA). This role is part of the team which develops strategy, manages assets, and works with market makers, hedge funds and other investment professionals to manage defined benefit and insurance subsidiary assets. The successful candidate will have a passion and curiosity for learning and an interest in financial markets.

The overall portfolio of assets to be managed is greater than $20 billion, across 11+ defined benefit plans in 5+ countries, and 5 insurance subsidiaries. The team is comprised of 6 finance professionals with experience ranging from Specialist to Director. The position reports through the global Treasury organization, whose role is to ensure financial flexibility in order to deliver the Company’s strategy by optimizing the Company’s capital structure and investments through effective risk management.

Responsibilities
  • Provides enhanced decision support across all aspects of portfolio management. Optimizes processes and reporting, engages with external parties, gathers investment research, provides modeling and trade decision support, completes analysis in support of the asset allocation strategy for $20+ billion of defined benefit pension and insurance assets to achieve investment objectives.
  • Creates analytics and reporting related to assets, liabilities, GAAP funding, performance, positioning, and risk management.
  • Provides measurement of derivative overlay strategies across fixed income, credit, equity, commodity, and foreign exchange asset classes.
  • Supports risk measurement activities for Dow’s corporate derivative overlay strategies and pension assets and liabilities.
  • Advises on optimal long-term strategic allocation for effective asset / liability management.
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis of manager performance.
  • Actively drives the onboarding process of new investment managers/funds, including initial due diligence and negotiating key terms.
  • Conducts economic and capital market research.
  • Coordinates with pension operation team to optimize efficiency.
  • Collaborates with different stakeholders internally and externally – internal compliance and audit, legal and tax team, HR, controllers, treasury, custodian, actuary, external fund managers.
Required qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (preferably in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Finance and/or Economics) or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience.
  • The ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
