Summary

Under direct supervision of the provider, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for patient assessment and care, maintaining appropriate documentation, and coordinating care to ensure high‑quality, compassionate service.

  • $2,500 Sign on Bonus**
Responsibilities
  • (30%) Triages all calls, schedules daily urgent/emergent add‑ons, receives and relays test results, and supports, directs and refers patients for consults and testing and insurance pre‑certification.
  • (30%) Greets patients and/or family, performs routine pre‑examination procedures including vital signs, assesses and records objective and subjective data, updates patient records, and performs medication reconciliation and refills within scope of certification.
  • (20%) Assists provider with examinations and procedures.
  • (20%) Prepares and cleans patient area, sets up equipment, cleans and facilitates room setup after procedures, disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes instruments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides complete patient assessment within scope of practice.
  • Performs patient care measures including injections, minor dressing changes, and obtaining blood specimens.
  • Assists with procedures such as EKG, PFT, ABI, NST, and other clinical tasks.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and staff; may travel to satellite clinics.
  • Operates computer systems: MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking for patient management and maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Performs clerical duties (filing insurance forms, answering phone, updating records) and orders supplies and medications.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and coding; participates in annual quality reviews.
  • Provides for age‑specific needs of the population served per department standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows and may participate in further learning opportunities.
Certifications and Licensures
  • BLS:
    Basic Life Support (within 1 month of hire or transfer)
  • MA CERT:
    Medical Assistant
  • Other required certifications (active) include:
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA
    • Equivalent Medical Assistant Credential (e.g., CCMA)
    • Medical First Responder
    • Emergency Medical Tech Basic/Specialist or Paramedic under Michigan state standards
    • Registered Radiologic Technologist through ARRT
    • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (preferred)
Required Education

High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience, Training and Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for communication with patients and staff.
  • Mandatory OSHA training annually as per Exposure Control Plan.
  • Knowledge of medical office policies, practices, and procedures acquired through 3–5 years in a healthcare setting.
  • Previous experience in a physician clinic setting preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
  • Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief and death.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex or substitutes.
  • Ability to move freely within the facility and perform job functions.
  • Requires sitting/standing/walking for long periods; frequent postural changes (stooping, kneeling).
  • Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; must complete TB testing and blood borne pathogen protocols.
  • Handles multiple tasks, works independently, maintains regular attendance, and stays alert.
  • Needs dexterity for handling and reaching; repetitive movements common.
  • Physical demand level:
    Light. Lifts 11–20 lbs 0–33% of workday, 10 lbs 34–66% of workday, and performs arm/leg control tasks.
